Anime First Reaction: VTuber Nandaga Haishin Kiri Wasuretara Densetsu ni Natteta

Anime First Reaction

I’ll be honest… I never truly got into the V-Tuber culture. I have nothing against it; however, it was just something that I didn’t seem to be interested in. Probably because I used to watch a lot of Twitch streams when I had more free time but as that free time dried up, I stopped doing that so watching streamers just became something I didn’t do anymore. Thankfully, I still watch anime and I can watch shows about streamers! This is where VTuber Nandaga Haishin Kiri Wasuretara Densetsu ni Natteta (VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream) comes in. I get to learn all about how to be a V-Tuber in anime form, right?

RIGHT?

Let’s go!

First Episode Synopsis

Yuki Tanaka is a V-Tuber that’s part of the Live-On streaming group’s 3rd Generation. She’s wholesome and as dainty as a doily! She’s the perfect model V-Tuber through and through which is bad for her because her concurrent viewers and subscriber counts are not as popular as others in her generation. Despite that, there are some who enjoy her.

When she ends the stream, she decides to unwind by cracking open some Strong Zeros and checking out some of her fellow V-Tubers. She makes tons of lewd comments (as apparent by the excessive amount of bleeping), and just lets loose! Everyone in her chat tries to tell her that she forgot to turn off her stream but she’s not reading a single word of it because it’s not up on her screen. Eventually, she listens to a Chami, an ASMR V-Tuber, and falls asleep only to wake up the next morning to a phone call from her manager!

She could feel the world crashing down until she learned that Live-On was perfectly fine with what happened! In fact, she went viral overnight and is their #1 trending V-Tuber! And so begins a new life of a foul-mouthed V-Tuber with no filter that people just can’t get enough of!

Worth Watching?

YES – It’s funny because Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan aired and premiered the same day at V-Tuber Legend. I watched Shikanoko first and thought “There’s nothing else this season that could come close to being this random and unhinged.” V-Tuber Legend was like “Hold my Strong Zero.”

While not as crazy, off-the-wall, and 4th wall-breaking as Shikanoko, the show is definitely unhinged and unfiltered! The comedy was pretty good and the first episode definitely gave you enough to make you want to see more. Yuki shattering her wholesome image and just being herself is kind of like a metaphor for everyone watching to not worry about what other people think and to just be yourself. It’s a common wholesome message delivered in one of the most non-wholesome ways possible and that dynamic just works so well.

The art and animation are pretty decent, too. They did take a lot of extra care with the V-Tuber models as they look as awkward and unnatural as the real thing! Yeah… I never could stand the weird side-to-side swaying and unnatural facial expressions on V-Tuber models but, don’t worry, because this show replicates that perfectly!

All in all, the premise sounded hilarious and the first episode delivered as expected. I’ll be checking out more of this one for sure!
