Tekken 8 Just Crossed A Major Sales Milestone

By Kevin KellyMarch 4, 2024

Bandai Namco recently celebrated a new Tekken 8, as the latest title in the series has sold 2 million sales worldwide, despite being released on January 26, 2024. Tekken 7, the predecessor, while it sold more, did so during its nearly decade-long run. To see this in the first month of the game, is phenominal to say the least. And definitely for a game that we’ve praised pretty highly.

2 MILLION FIGHTERS 🤜🤛

Thank you to all the players who have been duking it out in #TEKKEN8!

To put it into context, it’s no far cry from its’ 2.5D rivals. Street Fighter VI did 3 million sales cross last month, yet similar numbers in its first month. It’s great to see fighting games climb to these sales heights. Especially legacy franchises that received a resurgence because of a new entry. Fighting games are definitely on the rise.

Mortal Kombat 1 had nearly crossed this number in November 2023. What this means for fighting game franchises is that to do this well this quickly is nothing short of incredible!

Recently, it was announced that Tekken 8 would have an in-game currency-driven store, called Tekken Shop, that will allow players to purchase nostalgic Tekken outfits for characters. Access to the store will be facilitated through avatar lobbies by interacting with an employee. Prices are anticipated to be reasonable, with purchases made using “Tekken Coins.” Cross-platform commerce will not be permitted; purchases will be tied to the ecosystem in which they were made.

Tekken 8 is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Z
