PlayStation State of Play Final Fantasy XVI

By Scott AdamsApril 13, 2023
PlayStation State of Play

We got a great 25-minute preview from PlayStation about Final Fantasy XVI. They showed more about Clive, the combat, and some of the world that the game takes place in.

The first thing I will say about the look at this game is just how polished it looks. The action and movement is fluid. A lot of the fights we see are mostly mob fights which look fun and dynamic. Personally, it feels like mob fights look a little too spongey for my taste. We get a look also at a more in-depth fight with summons and Eikon battles.

We also get to look at the UI and the menu screens for all the characters. A bit basic for my taste but it is extremely clean. We see a skill tree that is reminiscent of the Sphere grid of Final Fantasy X. You can utilize an auto upgrade function or manually do the skill upgrades yourself. Party members will be all AI, you will be unable to control party members and only be able to play as Clive. We also see a training ground that allows you to customize the enemies and test your combos.

Final Fantasy XVI releases June 22nd, 2023, on PS5.
