Casey Hudson announces his new studio Humanoid Studios

By Keith MitchellJune 29, 2021
Casey Hudson

You may remember Casey Hudson, who once served as the general manager at Bioware, who departed the company (again) in December 2020. Since then, we hadn’t heard from him, that is until today. Casey has resurfaced and has announced that he has founded a new gaming development studio called Humanoid Studios.

Casey mentions the studio via Twitter and drops a tease on the studio’s work.

We are Humanoid Studios. This is the first tiny step in our journey, and we hope you'll come along with us on the adventure. https://t.co/b77Z2hbKFG

There’s not much of anything on the website at the moment, but there is a mission statement that reads:

Founded by Casey Hudson and talented developers from around the world, we combine excellence in the arts with advanced sciences
to deliver the future of interactive entertainment.

We believe in hiring great people, empowering them with the best tools and a supportive environment, and providing them the creative freedom to do their best work.
We are building something special, and we invite you to join us.

It’s nice to see that Casey decided to stay in the gaming industry, and I’m curious to learn more about this game in development. I know it’s still early, so we’ll have to wait until whenever Casey and his team are ready to talk. More than anything, I’m wondering if this title will contain some of the Bioware DNA. Casey has worked on several of my favorite games (and probably yours as well), including Jade Empire, the Mass Effect trilogy, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I’m also curious if another former Bioware staffer, Mark Darrah, is also a part of the Humanoid Studios team. Mark Darrah departed Bioware at the same time as Casey Hudson, but has been far more active. Aside from posting on Twitter, Mark has been uploading videos over on YouTube, on various things, including stuff he had learned during this stint at Bioware.

On a side note, Humanoid Studios is also hiring for several positions, including Senior Gameplay Programmer, Senior Gameplay Designer, among others. Check out the Humanoid Studios website for more information on these and the other open options.
