New Pokemon Snap Has Been In The Works For Years

By Todd BlackMay 16, 2021
New Pokemon Snap

A little over 2 weeks ago, New Pokemon Snap dropped on the Nintendo Switch, ending a 20-year long wait period that fans had to endure. Ever since the first Pokemon Snap, fans really felt this would be a great sequel to make, and yet, Nintendo didn’t follow through, not until recently. But given the game’s quality (see our review here!) and the clear detail that was put into it by Bandai Namco, just how long was the game in development?

Haruki Suzaki is the director of New Pokemon Snap, and in an interview with Vangamers, he talked about how the project began after a certain other project of theirs officially ended…Pokken Tournament DX:

“The first time I heard about New Pokemon Snap was when we were finishing up the additional content for Pokken Tournament DX. Since then, a little less than three years have passed. Many people have participated in the development of the game, about a few hundred people in total. Generally, game development at Bandai Namco Studios starts with a small team and eventually grows to over a hundred people.”

That’s a lot of information, and it makes it clear just how dedicated this team was to making the game shine that they had so many people on it.
