No Man’s Sky Servers Will Be Wiped before Launch

By Jason KwasnickiAugust 5, 2016

Harry Denholm, part of the team over at Hello Games, announced on Twitter that their upcoming game’s server will be wiped clean on Sunday. Therefore, discoveries made by players lucky enough to already have a copy of No Man’s Sky will be deleted. However, Denholm did clarify that progress saves will remain. Those who have been playing will be able to continue their journey. We’ll just never be able to find planet Kotaku.

There has been a plethora of drama surrounding the game recently. Retailers have been breaking street date, and thus individuals have been able to play and turn forums into spoiler minefields. Sean Murray has been vocal on Twitter about it, urging players not to spoil the experience they’ve been waiting for. However, the lack of early review copies has pushed many journalists to seek the game through alternate means. At this point, there very well may exist an underground black market for the title. I suppose that’s one way around embargoes.

Players can pick up or download a copy of No Man’s Sky on August 9 on Playstation 4 and August 12 on PC. If you’re willing to cough up the dough, there are more than likely Mom and Pop shops willing to sell it early. You can look forward to more stories about wacky planets and space dinosaurs by keeping it tuned to The Outerhaven.

Born and raised in the New York area, currently kicking it in Queens, and keeping an ear to the grindstone in this crazy world of internet media hustling. Having attended the George Washington University with a Degree in History, I'm sometimes inclined to use big words unnecessarily. While I typically play a lot of RPGs, I tend to like any game that is fun. My PSN ID is NY-Miller, so hit me up if you ever want to kill some Wizards on the Moon in Destiny.
