Xfire is shutting down its client after 12 years of service

By Keith MitchellJune 10, 2015

Xfire, a service that started off as a gaming client that allowed gamers to take screenshots, record videos and even do their own steams, is now closing down the their client after 12 years of service. I remember using this service many gaming years ago, a service that does what many services such as Steam do now, yet they were the pioneers and while they had a rocky start they managed to pull it off. The Xfire client was my go to back in the early days, especially around when Unreal Tournament and Quake were the dominant shooters.

Now it they are calling it quits on the little client that could, but it’s not all bad news. In fact while the client is shutting down, they are going to be refocusing their efforts on a new project; The Xfire Tournament Platform, which is a dedicated eSports platform that lets you setup tournaments or compete in them. That’s great for Lan Parties,Fighting Game communities, Moba players and more.  There are several active tournaments on there now should you be inclined to take a look at what’s being offered. Head on over to www.xfire.com for more information on it.

So while Xfire has closed one chapter in their book, they’re started on the next one. So goodbye Xfire client, while I no longer use you, you did serve me well in the past.
