2017 Holiday Gift Guide: $100 And Up

34-inch ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q

34-inch ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q Monitor

Keith: When you gotta have the biggest, best, yet not 4K monitor, then this is what you need. The Asus 34-inch ROG Swift is an absolute beast of a monitor. This thing packs a very sexy, yet curved 3440×1440 IPS panel that runs at 100HZ. It also incorporates Nvidia's G-SYNC technology, for when you gotta have zero tearing in your games. It even has a built-in FPS meter! How's that for being a complete bad-ass?

This monitor represents Ultrawide screen gaming at its finest. The only downside is the price, which comes in at $1200. But if you've been super good this year, maybe Santa can figure out how to get one of these gems out to you.

Specs:

  • 34" 1440p IPS panel with NVIDIA's G-SYNC Technology and 100Hz Refresh Rate deliver superior resolution, color, and smoothness, maximizing immersion in games. Curved Ultra-wide 21:9 Aspect Ratio maximizes immersion by expanding the display right to the peripherals of your vision
  • ASUS Eye Care technology lowers blue light and eliminates flickering. When coupled with ergonomics, gaming marathons just got a lot easier.
  • 5-Way OSD Joystick delivers the most intuitive control scheme for a monitor, so you can access features such as ASUS Game Plus on the fly.

Elgato 4KPRO 60

Elgato 4k60 Pro Capture Card

Keith: 4K gaming is a thing now. If you didn't know, now you do. That means that all the good boys and girls are going to want to record their 4K game footage, so they can toss it up on YouTube. But until now, there hasn't been a way to do it - at least not on the cheap. That is until Elgato came along with their 4K gaming solution, the 4K60 Pro. Your Xbox One, PS4 Pro and gaming PC will want this thing connected to them!

This PCIe card will sit inside your PC and will provide the ability to record 4K games up to 60fps. But it doesn't stop there, as it will also record at 1440p@120fps and 1080@240fps! That's a lot of FPS! Unlimited power... er, 4K! But it doesn't come cheap. This card clocks in at $400 and will more than likely fly off the shelves once it gets released on November 21st. I dunno about you, but I'm doing my best impression of Tony Stark, as he pleads with Pepper Potts that he wants this.

Seriously, I need one ;)

Tardis Quilt

You know what looks great? Nerdy home-made wares. You know what's really hard to make? Nerdy home-made wares. But luckily, you don't have to. This amazing twin-sized quilt is hand-made, and combines the homey look and feel of a patchwork quilt with everyone's favorite time-traveling alien, and even has Doctor Who fabric on the back. However, if this is something you must, must, must have, grab it quick – since quilts take forever to make, it also means there's only two up for grabs.

The Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch

Todd & Willam: Do we really need to list out the reasons why you need the Nintendo Switch this holiday? From Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the system is proving that Nintendo is back in the game, and stronger than ever before. As a hybrid handheld and home console, you can bring great experiences with you on the go! Play Doom on Switch or bring to a friend to play right there.

Needless to say, this a must-have system to put under the tree this season.

HyperX Alloy FPS Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Clinton: I've personally reviewed this keyboard for The Outerhaven, and I easily recommend this keyboard. It's my daily driver, and I couldn't see myself using any other keyboard, only because of the simplistic design choices made by Kingston Hyper X. It also comes with a really nice looking, yet handy carrying bag.

Samsung CHG90 Series Curved 49-Inch Gaming Monitor

Samsung CHG90 Series Curved 49-Inch Gaming Monitor

Karl: If you thought Keith's recommendation was crazily priced, then this is beyond crazy. Do you have a lot of open desk space? Do you hate money? Well, you're going to love Samsung's biggest and widest gaming monitor to date. At the size of 3 standard screens, this monitor will give you the widest single view of any game you play, or if you want, you can have it running a game on 2 screens at 1080p and have the 3rd part of the monitor open for web browsing; or if you are so inclined, you can use it as 3 screens at once for the easiest streaming set up ever.

Dell S2716DG (S2716DGR) – 27" LED QHD GSync Monitor

Jon: Want to upgrade a 1080p monitor for someone, but not sure what to get? I was in a similar boat earlier this year after building a new PC. I wanted something that would help show off the quality of a new graphics card. The big question currently is 4k 60hz for a quality picture or 1440p (2k) at a refresh speed over 100hz for smooth performance. The Dell S2716DG is where I landed and I don't regret it. At 1440p most games run great and over 60 frames per second taking advantage of the 144hz refresh rate. If you have a Nvidia graphics card, it will also take full advantage of the GSync technology to ensure that smooth picture without putting further stress on the PC. Overall, the Dell S2716DG offers excellent performance while also saving your wallet from the next big 4k monitor upgrade.

It's also the cheaper of the monitors on this year's gift guide!

Skullcandy Hesh 2 Bluetooth Headphones

Skullcandy Hesh 2 Bluetooth Headphones

Clinton: If I'm not swearing by my HyperX Cloud Revolvers, I swear by anything Skullcandy. My first Skullcandy experience was the New York Yankees edition Hesh 2 headphones, and they lasted me for 2 whole years before they finally gave up the ghost. The sound quality was fantastic, the way the headphones felt and looked was awesome, and the detachable cable is definitely something I still use with most headphones that have detachable cables. The Hesh 3 Wireless gives up to 22 hours of music playback, and it features quick charge capabilities, so if you need that extra 90 minutes of music, just charge it for 5 minutes and you're ready to go. If your battery is low, you can also use the detachable cable for continuous passive playback (given that you were smart enough to go with a phone that still has a headphone jack.)
