Ever since the cancellation of the last installment, the state of the Silent Hill series has been in limbo. However, it looks like this may change soon as Konami allegedly plans to reboot the series. And not only do they plan on rebooting the series with a new installment, but they may plan to reboot the series with two brand new games in the series.

The news began with tweets from AestheticGamer, who shared the information that Konami reached out to developers a couple years ago to pitch ideas for new games in the series. The tweets describe the two potential Silent Hill titles, “one a soft-reboot of the franchise, the other an episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game to go alongside the reboot.” They also speculate that the titles may receive announcements sometime this year, and express hope that Konami finds the right developer and budget for the two projects.

Although these tweets only report on the news that the games were pitched to developers, another source has suggested that these games are actively in development. Horror site Rely On Horror reports that an insider source has confirmed that at least one Silent Hill game is in development. They do not yet know whether Konami plans to specifically make the two aforementioned titles. However, since both sources reported the news around the same time, this scenario at least has a degree of likelihood.

Masahiro Ito, who served as the art director for previous games in the Silent Hill series, tweeted earlier this year that he’s working on a new project. While Ito doesn’t specify what this project it, he does note that he hopes it “won’t be cancelled” followed by a smiley-face. This seems a sly reference to the cancellation of the previous Silent Hill project which Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro had been working on. Again, nothing definitive, but certainly a lot of rumblings. We’ll provide updates if and when Konami confirms the revival of the Silent Hill game(s). No word yet on whether they’ll be playable on consoles or pachinko machines.
