What the heck happened to the Ridge Racer series?

What happened to Ridge Racer? Back in the Playstation years, you could count on a a new Ridge Racer like clock work. Come the Playstation 2, we got 1… 1 Ridge Racer, and it wasn’t even that good. Sure, we got a Ridge Racer on the Nintendo 64, two Ridge Racers on the PSP (which only included past tracks), and a Ridge Racer for the DS (terrible, terrible) that was it.

Then on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, we got Ridge Racer 6 and 7, which were mainly the same game, just more gloss on the Playstation 3 version. And now, nothing. No news on a new Ridge Racer, no Ridge Racer collection disc, nothing.  Heck, what even happened to the talk of a new Ridge Racer for the iOS (iPod/iPhone) but that died out and I’m pretty sure a rehashed Ridge Racer will show it’s head for the Nintendo 3DS, but where’s the new Ridge Racer’s?

What’s up Namco-Bandai? You to busy working on Tekken to give some love to a classic?
