The Summer Anime Season is filled with titles with odd names with interesting premises. Akimi Yoshida’s Banana Fish is one of those shows. While Amazon did not make the announcement at Anime Expo that they have begun streaming the anime with English sub-titles, VIZ Media did announce that they have released the entire manga series on their digital platform and it is available to read right now.

While the anime is airing in 2018, the original manga finished publishing 24 years ago. The manga ran from April 1985 to March 1994. MAPPA and Fuji TV are the studio and producers respectively behind the television anime adaptation.

The story of Banana Fish is described by MyAnimeList as follows:

Nature made Ash Lynx beautiful; nurture made him a cold ruthless killer. A runaway brought up as the adopted heir and sex toy of “Papa” Dino Golzine, Ash, now at the rebellious age of seventeen, forsakes the kingdom held out by the devil who raised him. But the hideous secret that drove Ash’s older brother mad in Vietnam has suddenly fallen into Papa’s insatiably ambitious hands—and it’s exactly the wrong time for Eiji Okamura, a pure-hearted young photographer from Japan, to make Ash Lynx’s acquaintance…
